COIMBATORE: Bharathiar University on Monday morning suspended controller of examinations C R Gladys Leema Rose for her alleged involvement in irregularities in the sale of semester exam answer scripts to scrap dealers.
A committee formed by university vice-chancellor James G Pichai had indicated her involvement in the scam, a spokesperson of the university told TOI. “We issued the suspension orders to her this morning,” confirmed the spokesperson.
In the first week of August, TOI reported the scam involving Rose and registrar K G Senthil Vasan. According to the proof available with TOI, the sold 147.81 tonne of answer scripts worth Rs 22,17,150 (Rs15/kg) to scrap dealers in Coimbatore.
Members of the Bharathiar University Non-Teaching Staff Association staged a protest on August 24 against the irregularities. The protesters observed a hunger strike on August 26 demanding a probe into the issue.
The vice-chancellor held talks with the association members and promised to conduct an inquiry into all the allegations. A committee comprising members of the senate conducted a probe into the issue and submitted a report.
“Based on the report submitted by the committee, the controller of examinations has been suspended,” the spokesperson added.
