Prime accused at large
It is learnt that there are cases pending against most of the persons who have been arrested so far in the case in other districts – including murder, attempt to murder and other bodily offences. Police sources say that a few more persons including history sheeter Mohanram (35) of Dindigul, who is said to be the prime accused in the case, are yet to be arrested.
The police added that a pistol used for the crime that was seized from the accused would be subjected to forensic ballistic examination. Weapons including sickles and other sharp items seized from the accused would be produced before the court, on Monday.
A senior police officer hinted that a few of the arrested persons might be taken into police custody.
Superintendent of Police for Coimbatore District M. Sudhakar said that they have also taken measures to coordinate with prison authorities to ensure that such murders do not take place again.
